Hip market of San Pantaleo

San Pantaleo is an artistic village located only 15 minutes away from the beautiful Costa Smeralda. It is situated high up in the mountains nestled among the imposing granite headlands.

One of the things this little village is famous for is the market. Every Thursday morning (from May to October) local farmers, artisans and jewelry vendors are joined by tourists and local people for a happy 'get together'. Surrounded by flowers and blossoms on the trees this weekly market is one of a kind. It is set around a charming piazza along with lively cafes and artisan shops. With its rustic cottages, breathtaking position and chic atmosphere many artists have chosen this charismatic community as their home. After all, these artists coming from England, Scandinavia and France (just to name a few) have slowly developed the bohemian feeling of San Pantaleo today.

Take your time and have a good look at all of the stands - you will really get inspired of all the beautiful colours, forms and patterns. The reward afterwards is to enjoy (and rest your tired legs, of course) an aperitivo before lunch or try one of the best coffees at my favourite place, Cafe Nina, on the main piazza - all depending of how long time you actually did spent to shop after all!

Just remember, as one of the last things to do while exiting the market, to pass by Pierpaolo & Marias meat shop (macelleria). He has the most delicious 'porchetta' I have ever eaten here in Sardinia. Directly from the BBQ Pierpaolo cuts wonderful pieces to take home as lunch! For those who haven't tried it yet - porchetta is a savoury & moisty boneless pork roast from the Italian culinary tradition.

Buon shopping!

Salla
