If you're planning a holiday trip to Italy this summer remember to put this non-alchoholic coffee drink on your things-to-drink list - caffe' shakerato. Iced espresso shaken and super refreshing. Caffe shakerato is pronounced as you might expect, ca-fay shake-er-a-to. While a "shakerato" can mean lots of drinks shaken, usually alcoholic ones, the caffe shakerato is the 'coolest' of them all while trying to beat the summer heat this year. Nothing like ice and caffeine to knock out the summer doldrums.

The caffe shakerato is simple and quick - just combine freshly made espresso, a bit of sugar, and lots of ice, shake vigorously until a froth forms when poured into a glass. You can do this easly in a martini shaker at home. The picture above shows a caffe shakerato poured into a martini glass that has been lined with a spiral of chocolate syrup. Martini glasses or champagne flutes are the traditional glassware used to hold a caffe shakerato.
Keep it shaking!
