Thursday is gnocchi day in Rome!

Roman cuisine remains very close to its roots. Even if I see a huge increased demand for the exotic and convenient, the city’s gastronomic traditions change little. Actually, historically speaking you need to know that certain days of the week have been designated sacred to specific ingredients and as it's Thursday today.....it's gnocchi day!!!

These so called 'potato dumplings' can be served in many ways - simply only with pesto, different creamy cheeses, sautéed with wintery veggies, dressed in a tangy tomato sauce… you name it. You can’t go wrong with this satisfying, often-mispronounced pasta!

So, when I am in the mood for my thursday fix I go & have my favourite 'gnocchi con pomodori & basilico' at Osteria Chiana (Via Agri 25). This kind of a thursday strategy works great for me for three waterproof reasons; as the lush gardens of Villa Ada are just a few minutes walk away from the restaurant I usually go & have a long walk in the parc late morning. Then I combine some chic shopping around Via Tagliamento (a long shopping road under the restaurant) and finally...I finish my magic thursday with Osteria Chiana's amazingly yammy gnocchis!
Have a good gnocchi day!
